I am very close to many 'Aliens'.
Obama has deported more immigrants than all other presidents combined. Their official policy is to only deport immigrants with criminal records. It is a lie. They use radar tag text reading technology to discover if the auto owners are 'legal'. If they have their tax ID number(yes, 'aliens' are allowed to just sign up and pay taxes but get no benefits), and are paying income taxes(yes, local law enforcement can verify this upon reading your tag now) than they are hassled less depending on the officer. Their is more disinformation about Mexico and 'illegal aliens' than any other subject out there.
So, contrary to popular belief, 'aliens' generally pay income tax, property tax(yes, they own homes or even if they rent landlords add in their property tax), sales tax, gas tax, and the rest of the nonsense too. Also, ICE is generally situated in the same buildings as your Sheriff's office. They work together.

My city is near the border. I live in a barrio. I am the only caucasion for about 30 blocks. When I first purchased this property I saw INS out at the local park on an almost daily basis rounding up illegals in thier white vans. At that time, illegals were scard of INS and it curbed some of their activities because they feared being rounded up. After 911 and ICE was implimented, I have not seen 1, I repeat...I have not seen even 1 ICE van picking up illegals, nor have I seen even 1 illegal being detained. They are everwhere in my neighborhood and my city. It is clear the official policy is no policy toward illegals.
It is not that the illegals are bad people, but I believe the problem is that the are the most economically and educationally disadvantaged peasants often with a lower moral code than the other classes of Mexicans who reside in Mexico. They have many kids and they do not value education. Their kids are unsupervised, particularly males and grow up with a little king syndrome. The kids as young as 6 are out grafitting our neighborhood. I have apprehended many young kids trying to spray paint our front wall and walked them to their mom's house...moms didn't care at all.
All of our local schools have been rebuilt and are like mini -Taj Majals. They have every modern convenience and amenity, and the teachers are equal to any other part of the district...yet the scores are abysmal. Because the scores are in the dummy range and their students are bullying problems in these schools because the families let their kids run wild and instill no self restraint and educational aspirations in their kids. Thus, I ship my 2 young kids to a charter school that does not have these problems. Incidentally, the charter school does have a population of hispanics children but they are not a majority at the charter (maybe 10-20% hispanic, 30-60% ethnic minority) and thus they must assimilate toward the higher morality of the other students. And bullying and related social issues are not tollerated one iota at the charter. Everyone gets along great and their is much diversity. Those kids become well assimilated and I have no doubt they will be much more successful and prosperous later in life.
We Would Be Pouring Into Mexico!
If Ron Paul's policies were put into effect there would be such a tremendous release of productive energy that the birthrate would explode and we would be pouring into Mexico, not the other way around.

I doubt very much if making the policy official would hurt anything, but it should not be a one time gimmick. We should open the borders lie they were pre 1900, and accept anyone who was willing to work and learn english. As a corrollary, welfare programs should be pared back to very minimum levels in order to deter wannabe freeloaders, and the borders should be controlled. That would be a comprehensive immigration reform that I could get behind.

If "they" can dilute Americanism, all the better for world domination. I am sorry I do not agree with open borders with or without free markets. Every other country has standards for becoming a citizen (a source of income, healthy, ability to contribute, etc.). I don't understand how wanting an American child to get a scholarship over an illegal is considered hate. Our taxpayer’s dollars have been stolen from us to "help" illegals while Americans suffer. Our school systems have to hire Spanish speaking teachers, provide medical treatment, while Americans get kicked out of there homes unable to pay their mortgage. There is a difference between immigration and an evasion.
In a free society amnesty
In a free society amnesty should not be an issue. Our ancestors came here without "papers" so i believe that immigration shouldn't be a big of deal that it is today. If this country wasnt going backwards there would be no problem because we would need the people for our growing economy but right now the worker count is decreasing while unemployment is going up without creating any productive jobs to spur this economy again.
I believe another reason why our economy is shit is because of all the bad news thats being sold to every sheep out there everyday. Most "news" stations are 90% negative stories and people wonder why other people do the things they do.
On my father's side
My father's family began a life in America in 1602 when 2 year old Edward was brought to the US as an indentured slave from a ship out of Nigeria. A "nigger" used to be slang that defined the white slaves that had been shipped out of Nigeria. He was made a freeman when he was 34. There is a plaque for him as it appears his Master appreciated and loved him. So, he did come with papers, slave papers.
On my Mothers side, Ernest came to the USA as a young man of 16 from Sweden. He was not on American soil a minute before he was drafted into WWI, returned to a ship, and forced to fight for America.
I do not condemn anyone for wanting to make a better life for themselves. What is condemnable is doing it illegally and scamming Americans.
In many ways, I love Mexico, great food, great surf, beautiful, and exotic, but the government is militarisic, and the people actually live in fear of their government which targets Americans. There are many innocent Americans sitting in Mexican prisons because they didn't comply to with an officer demanding cash.
The thing I see happening, is our government is becomming more like Mexicos. Mexicos government is not becomming more American, and that is the shame. The dumbing down of citizens, the police state, the lack of freedom, the lack of opportunity are all coming to America as America is being ruled more by precident laws than constitution. As illegal Mexicans go through our courts, this is what is setting up our courts, enabling them to not refer to the Constitution, but the last case rammed through.

Here's how I understand it
Here's how I understand it from listening to Dr. Paul and some other liberty minded folks. With more workers flowing into the country, theoretically there should be more production, thus more consumption, more jobs and a higher standard for living for all. Unfortunately, this only comes true in a free market. With a welfare state in place and competition regulated out of existence, opening the borders will create more people on the dole (both natives and immigrants), which leads to less production from the real economy, less consumption and a larger number of unemployed people. You can have open borders in a free market, but with a socialized economy opening the borders can only accelerate the decline in the standard of living that socialism always brings.

Isnt that essentially what is taking place now?
May force the people who generate fake documents for a living onto welfare, but it seems to me that whoever wants to come into America already is under the current system.
Honestly though, with this generation nearing retirement, a healthy infusion of immigrants paying into social security could help if the massive strain on every other public service doesn't deliver the final death knell to the dollar first.

Anna, I disagree with you on point A and C. The whole notion of using government to manipulate the market so that illegals don't take jobs is not a free market principle. People need to learn to be more accepting of change in the job market. And C, using the government to maintain culture is a terrible idea. Think the Christian right (I am a Christian), which has turned into kill all the muslims in the name of Christ.

Common sense says you don't bring in millions of new workers during a recession when there are not even enough jobs already. Also, do YOU want American culture to be destroyed? This is what is happening in Europe. Too many foreigners are being allowed to immigrate into their countries and are taking over European culture. If such a thing happened in a non-Western country, the whole world would condemn it and call it something like "ethnic cleansing".

With an extensive welfare state
it would be little different that what we have now: A stagnant, stultifying, depressing, will-draining society.
Without a welfare state: A new era of peace, prosperity and good will toward all people, not just ones who look and sound like us.
Ron Paul has stated something to this effect many times, that immigrants are scapegoats because of our welfare state. There is a sharp contrast between the good will of Ron Paul and the xenophobia of many of his followers. The free market society is an open society, where people of different races, beliefs, and cultures come together in an atmosphere of mutual support and trade. Just as we should not be hostile to a rich person if they earned their money honestly and peacefully, we should not be hostile to immigrants who come here to live in peace.
