He seemed grumpy back then because he probably felt like he was the only sane man in the world, just imagine, in Ron Paul's mind, just getting the millions of supporters that he does now, he has already won, that's why I think he's more cheerful now. Either that or he just mellowed with age, lol.

The situation in 1988.

CIA was supporting Bin Laden and crew in their fight against the Soviet Occupation of Afghanistan. Meanwhile the Soviet system was getting financial aid from the US. The US was getting revenge on the Iranians for hostage situation of 1979/80. Iraq was supplied by the US in it's War with Iran. But the US supported the Kurds in their opposition of Saddam and the Baath Party.

On Black Monday in October the year before the DJI lost 22%. Six other International Markets crashed harder.

And that only scratches the surface.

Wow. Thank you, lamborghini_man. What a treat to watch some RP history. It was amazing to see that Dr. Paul still has the same, solid and true views today as he did back then. Truth is timeless. I can't believe how well-behaved those children were in the back of the room. I wonder what they are doing today. Thanks for the posting!

Can you imagine what it would be like today if people had snapped out of it then. Things have to get worse before they get better I suppose. By that logic things should be getting better real soon...I hope.
LOL! Two trillion dollar deficit he said! What I would give for that. He sheds a little light on the truth of the Reagan years for me. Ah, I'd love to watch this whole thing right now but have to study! This is one I haven't seen.... haha, but I've gotta say - tough crowd! No chanting about ending the fed or anything...

I've only seen half of the first video but it sounds almost verbatim to what he's saying now...

I'd be real interested, however, in hearing him talk about what he's learned since 1988. In this video he says the same thing he says now "we're at the end of an era... the idea has failed... we were prosperous because we were wealthy, now we've used all that wealth and have reached bankruptcy... you may not have jobs"... and that was 24 years ago. So I wonder why it lasted so much longer than he predicted.... Is it because they hadn't reached the 'sovereign debt' crisis that reaches into Europe like we have now?

My answer is that he underestimated the ability for the Fed to patch up the bubble, which it was able to do in the early 90s and once again in at the end of the Dot Com bubble. The bubble was only transferred to a new segment of the economy and now there is little chance for that bubble to be transferred to a new segment. He may have also underestimated that the world would import the inflationism as they continued to accept dollars for the export led growth which took off in the '90s and '00s.

The electronics and telecommunications industries were also important developments since there was massive growth potential and helped improve otherwise tough economic conditions. But, of course, low interest rates and inflationism caused massive malinvestment in these industries and would later be transferred to the housing market.

... the dollar acted as the world's reserve currency that the Fed could over-extend their monetization thus far into this century. It will all come winding down and they know it - that's why they're forever preparing for their one world currency. The federal reserve is just a tool in the hands of the global banking cartel. They make use of, they dispose... then they replace.

been known back then: the lock-step global financial structure in which all centralized banking systems support the fraud mutually, even to the point of bailing out those who fall down the drain quicker than the rest. The looting has gone viral among all governments, the scale of deception and acceptance of trillions in debt as "normalcy" could not have been imagined.
